TN Handgun Carry Permit Classes

Our Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit classes have exploded in popularity. Perhaps it's because we train 60 or so instructors from across the state a year to teach the carry permit class. Though we offer the permit classes twice a month (once on a Saturday and once on a Sunday) our first available openings are in the Saturday 9 July class. Hurry to lock in your spot NOW!

The Department of Safety’s online registration program speeds up the receipt of your Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit. It automates the process and even allows you to track the progress of your application yourself. The steps are simple and outlined below.

  1. Go online to the Department of Safety’s secure website at https://apps.tn.gov/handgun (link opens in new browser window), fill out the application, hit the “Submit” button and print out or record the confirmation number of the transaction.
  2. Contact the school via email at info@firearmsclasses.com providing the CONFIRMATION NUMBER you received when you submitted your online registration at the Department of Safety’s registration webpage AND your contact information, i.e. your name, home address, email addressphone number .

It’s as easy as 1, 2 … er, ah… well, easy as pie!

Special Note:

The Tennessee Department of Safety’s Handgun Carry Permit class is not a beginner’s class. It is performance based and you must be able to shoot accurately to pass the course. If you are a beginning or novice shooter it is strongly recommended that you take our Introduction to the Handgun class. Introduction to the Handgun is our school’s response to the public’s need for a firearm introductory program for beginning or novice shooters and/or new gun buyers. This class provides a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper operation including the most advanced shooting techniques of a specific model of firearm, whether one owned by the student or one supplied by the instructor. To not only improve retention, but also to make learning fun, these courses reflect the TPI (Total Participant Involvement) philosophy of “learning by doing”. • NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting Handbook- A $19.95 value, this full-color, 119 page handbook on revolver and semi-automatic pistol shooting is one in a series of NRA publications on the basics of shooting. It includes such topics as pistol parts and operation, ammunition, using a pistol safely, operating a pistol, cleaning, storing and transporting a pistol, shooting fundamentals, shooting positions, improving and maintaining shooting skills, and buying a pistol.
  • Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program Book- A great way to build shooting skills. Qualification shooting is an informal, year-round recreational shooting activity that provides incentive awards for developing and improving marksmanship skills. It’s a drill. The NRA sets the standards; you meet the challenge! Progression is self-paced and scores are challenging but attainable. Performance is measured against established par scores and any shooter who meets or exceeds those scores is entitled to the corresponding recognition awards for that rating. It’s all done on the honor system and participation is FREE!
